About Kings Park
Opened in 1938 to commemorate King George V and the coronation year of King George VI, Kings Park spans over 10 hectares on both sides of the River Idle. This historic park is recognized nationally for its excellent management and has proudly held the prestigious Green Flag Award since 2008. The park’s rich history includes generous donations of land from local benefactors, community-led initiatives, and continual development to enhance its appeal. Parking
Although the park itself doesn’t have private parking, there are several nearby options. Chancery Lane Short Stay Car Park is just 200 meters away and offers Blue Badge parking bays. Additionally, Bridgegate Public Car Park is easily accessible. For shorter visits, you can park for free for up to 2 hours at either Asda or Aldi.
Accessibility
The park features step-free access and wide, tarmac paths suitable for wheelchairs. Accessible toilets are located near the children’s play area, and there are plenty of benches along the scenic paths where you can rest and take in the beauty of the park.
Public transport
The nearest National Rail station is Retford, making it easy to reach the park by train. Once you arrive in town, the park is just a short walk from the station.
